Trauma has the potential to hijack the brain. In fact, in the aftermath of the horror of the situations that trauma sufferers experience, their bodies cease to belong to them. In effect, they experience a loss of bodily self-awareness. Consequently, their bodies activate at the slightest hint of danger.
