U.S. Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost is new pontiff, Pope Leo XIV
Cardinal Robert Prevost has been elected as the 267th Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church and will be known as Pope Leo XIV. Prevost, Cardinal-Bishop of Albano was born in Chicago.
He is aged 69. The Chicago-born Cardinal served as bishop of the Diocese of Chiclayo in Peru from 2015 to 2023. He was made a cardinal in 2023.
In February of this year, Pope Francis promoted Prevost to cardinal-bishop. He was assigned to Suburbicarian Diocese of Albano in the Province of Rome.

Previously, the conclave had twice failed to elect a new Pope.
