Day #43 – In Brief

  • Several prominent politicians from the reformist camp including Azar Mansouri, Javad Shakouri-Rad, Javad Emam, and Hossein Karroubi have been arrested over the past few days.
  • Ali Larijani, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, will visit Oman on Tuesday, state media reported, days after Tehran and Washington held nuclear talks in Muscat.
  • Iran’s Khamenei released a video on Monday urging turnout for Feb. 11 Islamic Revolution rallies, a day after he skipped his annual meeting with air force commanders.
  • Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said no country has the right to dictate what Iran “should or should not have,” defending uranium enrichment as a sovereign right, while also signaling flexibility in talks by saying Tehran opposes transferring uranium abroad but is prepared to reduce the level of enrichment.
  • Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said indirect talks with the United States, held via regional intermediaries, were “a step forward,” adding that Tehran favors dialogue based on its rights under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and rejects what he called the language of force.
