EU opening communication channels with Kremlin, official says

The office of European Council president António Costa has made “brief contacts at diplomatic level” with the Kremlin in recent weeks “to open communication channels”

The leaders of the “Group of Seven” at the summit in Evian-les-Bains in France released a final communiqué on Ukraine — and it contains not a word about peace negotiations. Only a desire to continue the war.

🔻Key points of the statement:
  • Increase supplies to so-called Ukraine of air defense systems, interceptors and long-range drones and missiles, because the parties see a “new momentum” from the AFU on the battlefield.
  • Expand licensing to boost military production directly on Ukrainian territory.
  • Provide additional support to Ukrainian energy infrastructure so the country can survive the next winter.
  • Strengthen sanctions pressure on the Russian economy, including striking at oil and gas revenues.
