- US President Donald Trump told the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday that Iran wants to talk and that Washington and Tehran will negotiate.
- Ukraine’s Zelensky warned against impunity for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, telling an audience in Davos that the the Islamic Republic’s survival would embolden deadly crackdowns by other governments.
- The number of civilians killed in Iran’s crackdown on protests may be more than 20,000, UN special rapporteur on human rights in Iran Mai Sato said on Thursday citing reports from doctors inside the country, Bloomberg reported.
- Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian in a phone call on Thursday that Ankara opposed any foreign intervention in Iran and sought peace and stability in the country.
- President Trump had said on Wednesday he hoped there would be no further action on Iran as a carrier strike group approaches the region, saying his warnings prevented Iran’s execution of 837 people.
