Local anti-Taliban militias are being formed in the Farhar region of Badakhshan to support Ahmad Massoud, the son of the late guerrilla commander Ahmad Shah Massoud. Militias declare their readiness to fight the Taliban in support of the Afghan National Security Forces. It should be noted that the activation of such local militias may negatively affect the fighting of the Taliban. Ahmad Shah Massoud was a high-ranking guerrilla commander during the resistance to the Soviet military operation in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989.
